Make sure that the joints and cracks are filled properly with fillers and a coat of varnish to stop water and moisture from entering through them and remaining under the wood to decay it from the inside. When dealing with fabric roofs, use weather strip cement to seal the openings if any, in place of varnish or paint as these will crack the fabric. To keep the fabric flexible, you can apply thin oil on it.
The drainage holes near the bottom of the wooden wagon and the sliding glass panes should be poked with a stiff wire every once in a while to ensure the well being of the wagon’s wooden body. These are teps to preserve your Woodie wagon once you own a good one but in order to recognize a good wagon you need to be careful.
Discolored, fungus infested interiors or exteriors coupled with festered wood smell are definitely the signs of a wooden wagon in a very bad condition. The gray colorations along the rims is usually the effect of the sun and is not something that can not be dealt with bleaching and varnishing, but black or green means that the wood is under some serious trouble and would require efforts worth at least a year.
Rotten wooden parts and bad repair works are often hidden
under coats of paint, so be careful about it while choosing your Woodie wooden
wagon. Press with your fingernail wherever you see an irregular depression
